Quiz No. 7 (Famous People of Afghanistan)
Famous People of Afghanistan:
Qahar Asi (April 12, 1956 – September 29, 1994) was a notable modern poet and agriculturist in Afghanistan. He was born in Malima in Panjshir province. He is considered to be Afghanistan’s most famous modern poet who has practiced both "New" and "Classic" poetry styles. Asi died in Kabul when a rocket hit his home during the 90s civil war. Like lots of other Afghan poets and writers of his time, Asi showed his concerns about the political and social situation of Afghanistan. His poetry is, sometimes, strongly influenced by the then socio-political developments in Afghanistan. His explicit expression of the situations caused him personal problems with the then regimes in Kabul. His book Az Jazeera e Khoon (from the Blood Island) is a good example where he expresses his concerns about the situation of his country during the rule of the Mujaheedin and the civil war.
Mahmud Beg Tarzi was one of Afghanistan's greatest intellectuals. He is known as the father of Afghan journalism. As a prominent modern thinker, he became a key figure in the history of Afghanistan, following the lead of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Turkey by working for modernization and secularization, and strongly opposing religious extremism and obscurantism. Tarzi emulated the Young Turks coalition.
Zekeria Ebrahimi is an Afghan actor. Ebrahimi is possibly best known for his role in the 2007 film The Kite Runner as Young Amir. He has received extensive media coverage for playing the role of Amir in the film The Kite Runner, both because of his acting talent and because of the cultural misunderstandings that surrounded the making of the film and are thought to have endangered his life at home in Afghanistan.
