Famous People of Albania:

Ramiz Tafė Alia was the second and last Communist leader of Albania from 1985 to 1991, and the country's head of state from 1982 to 1992. He had been designated as successor by Enver Hoxha and took power after Hoxha died. Alia died on 7 October 2011 in Tirana due to lung disease, aged 85. He was the first President of Albania from 1991 to 1992.

Luljeta Lleshanaku is an Albanian poet who is the recipient of the 2009 Vilenice Kristal prize for world poetry She was educated in literature at the University of Tirana and was editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine Zėri i rinisė. She then worked for the literary newspaper Drita. In 1996, she received the best book of the year award from the Eurorilindja Publishing House. In 1999, she took part in the International Writers Program at the University of Iowa. She is the author of four poetry collections, one volume of which has been translated into English: Fresco, available from New Directions

Rexhep Qemal Meidani; born on 17 August 1944) is an Albanian physics professor, diplomat and politician. Meidani is the 3rd to be elected President of Albania, after the first multi-party elections in 1991.

Arben Malaj has been Minister of Finance and Economy in the Republic of Albania different times from 1997 until 2005. He is known for transforming the Albanian economy into a European profile, after the hard social-economic crisis that this country passed during the year 1997.
