Louisa Hanoune

Louisa Hanoune is the head of Algeria's Workers' Party. In 2004, she became the first woman to run for President of Algeria. Hanoune was imprisoned by the government several times prior to the legalization of political parties in 1988. She was jailed soon after she joined the Trotskyist Social Workers Organisation, an illegal party, in 1981 and again after the 1988 October Riots, which brought about the end of the National Liberation Front's single-party rule. During Algeria's civil war of the 1990s, Hanoune was one of the few opposition voices in parliament.

Abdelaziz Belkhadem

Abdelaziz Belkhadem is an Algerian politician who was Prime Minister of Algeria from 2006 to 2008. He is the Secretary-General of the National Liberation Front, and since 2008 he has been Minister of State and Personal Representative of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Malek Bennabi

Malek Bennabi was an Algerian writer and philosopher, who wrote about human society, particularly Muslim society with a focus on the reasons behind the fall of Muslim civilization. He is mostly known for the concept of coloniability which is the inner aptitude of some societies to be colonized. The fall of the Almohad dynasty that ruled North Africa and Muslim Spain marked a new devastating trend of undermining ideas. The lack of new ideas concurrently spurned the death of new civilizations. According to Malik Bennabi, with this, emerged what he coined civilizational bankruptcy.

Ahmad al-Alawi

Ahmad al-Alawi, was the founder of a popular modern Sufi order, the Darqawiyya Alawiyya, a branch of the Darqawi, Shadhili tariqa.
