Heydar Alirza oghlu Aliyev was an Azerbaijani politician who served as the third President of Azerbaijan from October 1993 to October 2003. As national president he held constitutional powers, but his influence on Azerbaijani politics had begun years earlier.

Ilham Aliyev is an Azerbaijani politician and currently the fourth President of Azerbaijan, in office since 2003. He also functions as the Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party and the head of the National Olympic Committee.

Uzeyir bey Abdul Huseyn oglu Hajibeyov was a Soviet composer conductor, publicist, playwright, teacher, translator, and social figure of Azerbaijani origin. He is recognized as the father of Azerbaijani composed classical music and opera.

Nizami Ganjavi, Nizami Ganje'i, Nizami, or Nezami, whose formal name was Jamal ad-Din Abu Mu?ammad Ilyas ibn-Yusuf ibn-Zakki, was a 12th-century Persian Sunni Muslim poet. Nezami is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature, who brought a colloquial and realistic style to the Persian epic.
