Fidel Sánchez Hernández was a politician, general, and former President of El Salvador. It could be said that Sánchez Hernández led his country during a tumultuous era. While ruling El Salvador from 1967 to 1972, Sánchez Hernández faced war and economic turmoil. Before becoming president, Sánchez Hernández was an army general in El Salvador and had brief stints as a military attaché in Washington and in Paris.

José Matías Delgado y León was a Salvadoran priest and doctor known as El Padre de la Patria Salvadoreña. He was a leader in the independence movement of El Salvador from the Spanish Empire, and from November 28, 1821 to February 9, 1823 when he was president of the Central American constituent congress which met in Guatemala City.

General Carlos Humberto Romero Mena is a former President of El Salvador, elected on February 20, 1977 in a fraudulent election and inaugurated on July 1, 1977. Romero held power until October 1979 when he was deposed with a reformist coup d'état by dissident, politically conservative and moderate military officers and civilians.

Salvador Sánchez Cerén is a Salvadoran politician and former teacher. Following the 2009 presidential election, he is the Vice President of El Salvador and is currently running for presidential position under the FMLN political party for the 2014 elections.
