Kenneth Yakpawolo Best is a Liberian journalist who founded The Daily Observer and a paper of the same name in the Gambia. Best was the nephew of the Americo-Liberian and Caribbean journalist Albert Porte.

Belinda Bidwell was the first female Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia. In 2002, Bidwell, who was previously a teacher, was nominated to serve in the National Assembly, and she became deputy speaker.

Assan Musa Camara was a former politician from Gambia. He served as Vice President of Dawda Jawara, almost continuously from 1972 to May 1982 and the Member of Parliament for Kantora from 1960 to 1987.

Juldeh Camara is a griot, as well as an internationally followed blues musician and recording artist who has appeared on 21 albums. He is known for his instrumental virtuosity and for his collaborations with European, African, and other artists.
